Welcome to Friends of BMS, the charity working to keep live music happening in schools in Brent.
Brent Music Service has provided outstanding music education for Brent children for many years. Unfortunately its funding from Brent Council has been dramatically cut this year, leading to a shortfall of many tens of thousands of pounds.
Friends of Brent Music Service has been formed to help address the shortfalls in funding specifically for the Evening Ensembles and groups. These are groups of school children who come to together to play music in Concert Bands, Woodwind Ensembles, Orchestras and choirs throughout the year. We currently have 600 children benefiting from these groups, children who may not normally get the opportunity to play music in such a high quality group environment.
The success of these groups is amazing. The Brent Concert Band played with the Royal Philharmonic at The Royal Albert Hall in March 2015 and was invited back again in 2016. The concert Band is a platinum rate band and has been invited to play at the World Championship in Germany in July 2017 But this can only happen if the quality of teaching, access to instruments and practice facilities can be maintained.
We are in the process of building our Trustee Board, and of applying to become a Registered Charity. We are looking for more volunteers and members to ensure that Brent’s school children can continue to have wonderful opportunities to perform and learn. If you can offer skills, experience or time to help us raise awareness, publicise, or fundraise, please use our
The many groups and ensembles are coming together to play at Wembley Arena on 6th July 2016 to showcase their hard work and amazing abilities in this iconic world class music venue. We look forward to seeing you all there. Check out the event page for more details.
